Locked in/out

Urban Sketches by CMGT students around the world

Locked in/out is an exhibition based on a collective online drawing project. In March 2020, Creative Media and Game Technologies (CMGT) at Saxion University of applied sciences in Enschede launched a new workshop for second-year students. The objective of the elective class in urban sketching was to go out on the streets together and sketch the city of Enschede. However, the university closed and relocated all education online because of the covid19 pandemic on the day of the first workshop. This changed the urban sketching classes entirely. Instead of drawing a street scene together, students sketched their rooms and the outside of their houses in solitude. Afterwards, we gathered online to view and discuss the drawings. Those collaborative sessions were inspirational and meaningful.

Now that the corona measurements have been relaxed, it is time to meet onsite! The students materialised the lockdown drawings by printing all artworks and presenting them in this two-week exhibition and a collection of two magazines.

The exhibition opens with a brief introduction by Taco van Loon (program director CMGT), accompanied by music in an urban setting presented by Easy P.

The magazines are available at the exhibition opening for free. However, the stack is limited, so don’t be late 🙂
